Getting around Chongqing

Plan neighbourhood walks, rail journeys and transfers without underestimating Chongqing’s hills, station exits and rivers.

Group your stops before choosing transport

Chongqing has rail transit, buses and taxis, but a short distance on a map does not always mean an easy walk. Group nearby sights, then check the actual entrance, level and approach to each stop. Save the destination’s Chinese name and your hotel address so you can identify the correct place.

Rail and walking

Use the current rail map to compare routes, then allow time to reach the station and find the right exit. Avoid planning a connection solely from the distance between map pins. A route with fewer transfers may suit luggage or a slower walking pace better than the shortest route on screen.

When a transfer may help

A vehicle can make an arrival with luggage or a regional excursion simpler, but it cannot remove every walk or staircase inside an attraction. Ask where the vehicle can stop and what remains on foot. For an airport or railway pickup, provide the exact terminal or station, service number and arrival time.

City sightseeing and regional travel

Keep Wulong separate from a normal city day. Compare the complete journey, including local transfers, rather than just the train segment. For your private trip, tell us whether you prefer public transport, private transfers or a mixture, and flag any luggage or mobility constraints before the itinerary is agreed.
